What is the Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme?
The Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme is designed to attract innovative entrepreneurs from outside the EEA interested in starting a business in Ireland. The Programme provides an expedited route to Irish residency, which means you can establish and grow your business while enjoying the benefits of living and working in Ireland. With a minimum investment of €50,000, the Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme offers an appealing option for entrepreneurs who want to tap into the Irish market’s potential.
Who is Eligible for the Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme?
You must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme. These include:
· Non-EEA Nationality: The Programme is open to entrepreneurs who are not citizens of an EEA country.
· Innovative Business Idea: Your business should have a unique product or service with the potential for international growth.
· Investment: The primary applicant must contribute a minimum investment of €50,000. If there are additional founders, each will need to contribute €30,000.
· Business Plan: A detailed and robust business plan that clearly outlines your vision, target market, and scalability potential is essential for your application.
What Makes a Business Eligible for the Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme?
Not every business idea will qualify for the Programme. To give your business the best chance, you must meet specific criteria that reflect the potential for success and growth. Here are the key factors that make a business eligible:
- A Solid Business Plan: A well-crafted business plan is the backbone of any successful application. The Irish authorities will assess your business plan to determine whether your start-up has the potential for growth and scalability. Your business plan should demonstrate that you understand the market, your product’s unique selling points, and your financial forecasts.
- Rapid Growth and Scalability: For your business to qualify, it should have the potential to expand internationally and create jobs. The Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme particularly favours businesses with strong export potential, meaning your product or service should appeal to international markets.
- A Strong Team of Founders: Having a competent and experienced team is crucial for your business’s success. The Start-Up Entrepreneur Programme is keen to identify entrepreneurs with a proven track record or relevant experience in their field. The CEO or main decision-maker should possess the leadership qualities and knowledge necessary to guide the business to success.
- A Quality Product or Service with a Competitive Advantage: Your business idea should solve a problem or meet a need in the market. Innovative products or services—particularly those involving technology, processes, or business models—are highly favoured by the Programme. A clear competitive advantage will help your application stand out and enhance the chances of approval.
