We at Gibson & Associates LLP are delighted to welcome John Stanley to our team as an Independent Consultant.
As one of Ireland’s foremost immigration and refugee law specialists, and qualified Barrister, John has worked for both the Irish State and individual applicants advising on a wide range of immigration and international protection issues.
As Advisory Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General, John directed litigation in, and advised on, many systemic asylum, immigration and citizenship matters on behalf of the State. As Junior Counsel, he acted in many immigration and asylum cases on behalf of applicants before the Irish courts. He previously served as Deputy Chairperson of Ireland’s International Protection Appeals Tribunal, where he trained and mentored other decision makers.
John continues to act as a member of the Tribunal, is a member of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Law Judges, and delivers training on international protection on behalf of the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA). Author of Immigration and Citizenship Law (Round Hall, Dublin, 2017), the second edition of which will be published soon, John has written widely on immigration law. In addition, he guest-lectures at both Dublin’s Honourable Society of Kings Inns and the Law Society of Ireland.
As a Consultant with Gibson & Associates LLP, John’s expertise will enhance and expand the immigration capabilities of our specialist immigration team. As a firm we are excited to work in collaboration with John and grateful the ICS program has provided a platform where our values, culture and vision align, enabling us to work collaboratively to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients.
Established in 2020, Gibson & Associates LLP’s Independent Consultant Solicitor (ICS) Programme was designed to transform the professional experience for solicitors and other consultants in the legal sector in Ireland. Consultants enjoy the autonomy of self-employment, setting their own hours and retaining a percentage of the fees collected. They also benefit from the full support of a large firm, with access to advanced technology systems, administrative assistance, compliance services and insurance cover.
