GDPR Data Protection Compliance

GDPR Data Protection Compliance Ireland. Data is crucial to modern business. We’ll help you make sense of the data protection laws.

GDPR Data Protection Compliance

Protecting the data you hold is about to become more important than ever.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to come into force on the 25th May 2018, replacing the existing data protection framework. It has been described as “the biggest ever overhaul of data legislation”.

GDPR will allow data protection authorities to fine up to €20,000,000 or 4% of your company’s total annual turnover – whichever is greater. Where a breach occurs, the legislation allows only a maximum of 72 hours to notify the relevant data protection authorities.

The new law will also make it much easier for private individuals (your customers, employees, or even non-customers whose data you hold or use) to claim compensation if they feel their privacy rights have been breached – even for non-material damages.

At Gibson & Associates LLP, our fully-trained and accredited GDPR data protection solicitors can make sure your company or organisation is ready for the new legislation. We’ll help you avoid the eye-watering fines and compensation claims from customers – letting you get on with what you do best.

We understand the importance of striking the balance between policies and practices that offer full compliance, but are also workable, trainable and complement your business. We’ll work with you to understand your business and business model, the role data plays in your company, how it is collected, stored and used – and why.

We’ll then work with you to ensure you understand the steps needed to be fully compliant, absorbing the stress and hassle involved in creating and authoring the right policies and processes. We can be heavily involved, light-touch, or any level in between – whichever is right for your business.

What our clients say

How we do things

1. We arrange a meeting to discuss your needs

We arrange an appointment with you to get a better understanding of your business, your goals and objectives. We can do this over the phone, at our offices or on Skype.

2. We map out your data needs

We work through with you the types of data you collect, and what you use it for.

3. Scan Phase

We pull all of our work with you into an impact assessment, helping identify any areas which need work to reach compliance.

4. Consult Phase

Building on the Scan Phase, we can supply an Action Plan – tailored to your business, through consultation with your staff, highlighting actions to be taken, and their impact on any risk assessment.

5. Create Phase

Moving beyond the Consult Phase, we can author and create (or co-create) a tailored range of policies, processes and procedures aimed at keeping your company compliant.

6. Data Protection Officer

For those companies which need a Data Protection Officer, but don’t have the skills in-house, we can provide a full range of DPO services on an outsourced basis, as and when you need them!
