Thoughts on Irish Law

Irish law, particularly in the property and development sphere, is evolving rapidly in response to economic demand, regulatory change and societal needs. The opportunity lies in combining deep legal expertise with a commercial, solutions-driven mindset to help clients navigate increasingly complex transactions and disputes.

Why I Chose to Work in Law

Growing up I always had a strong interest in problem-solving, negotiation and advocacy. Throughout my early adulthood I put a lot of effort & time into honing these skills.

To this day, I still place a strong emphasis on all on refining these skills to support both myself in my leadership role, and the team in growing and developing across the areas of law we service.

This combined with the opportunity to play a central role in generating positive community impact across Ireland has been a real significant contributor as to why I have pursued legal.

How this applies to my role as Managing Partner at Gibson & Associates

  • Developing a strong foundation in problem‑solving: Our team navigates complex legal matters every day, and our aim is to find clear, practical solutions for clients.
  • Strengthening negotiation skills over time: Our team resolves disputes effectively while protecting our clients’ best interests.
  • Advocating with clarity and purpose: Part of my role as Managing Partner is to ensure every client’s position is properly represented and progressed with confidence.
  • Continuously refining legal and leadership skills: As a entrepreneur and Managing Partner I am highly invested in training and coaching that supports both my own development and the growth of our team across all areas of law we provide.
  • Leading a team focused on delivering results: As part of my role, one of my most enjoyable responsibilities is coaching and guiding colleagues in building their expertise and confidence, which in turn improves the consistency in how we support our clients.
  • Providing clear guidance in often stressful situations: Reducing uncertainty and helping clients and the team make informed decisions at every stage.
  • Contributing to positive outcomes for individuals and families: The most rewarding part of the role is ensuring that the work we do has a meaningful, real‑world impact.
  • Playing a role in the wider community: As a proud Donegal man, I spend a lot of my spare time volunteering and working with community and sporting organisations. It is really interesting and rewarding to see how both our business development and legal expertise can create positive change within organisations across Ireland.

Cases we are proud of at Gibson & Associates LLP

Although you won’t find me in the Courts every week anymore, you will always find me engaging with business clients particularly within the property sector! A lot of the work I am involved with nowadays is in coaching and leading the team, so that as a firm we are providing the best possible legal service we can to our clients and audience. Over the last few years, the team has taken a number of cases all the way to the Supreme Courts in Ireland & our firm is having a significant impact on Irish legislation in a number of legal areas.
